About me

Hi, I'm Catalina. I am a therapist with a passion in supporting people through their healing and mental health journeys. I created Ayun because I believe going to therapy should feel like a welcoming and friendly experience. In my practice there is nothing more important than you feeling comfortable and safe. I value trust building, curiosity and kindness deeply.

I am a proud Latina woman from Chile, with lived experience in migrating to another country and all the challenges that poses. I am familiar with experiences of migration grief, and can offer therapy both in English and Spanish, as well as in-person or online.

When I'm not at work, you'll find me cuddling at home with my partner and my cat, spending time in nature, beach camping, going on coffee walks with my friends, or on a videocall to my family back home.

About my practice

I believe that creating a warm and friendly environment is key to building trust and fostering a sense of security for my clients. My approach in sessions is to listen deeply with empathy and compassion to ensure I provide a non-judgmental space for clients to share their stories and life experiences. One of my biggest strengths as a therapist is the ability to connect and build trusting therapeutic relationships with the people I work with. I greatly value curiosity and kindness, and this supports me to deepen my understanding of your story in every session. This creates a relationship and space where you feel safe to express your unique feelings and their connection to your memories and needs.

I use humour and playfulness in sessions, because I believe that counselling is ultimately the encounter of two -or more- human beings wanting to establish a deep and meaningful connection which then, in turn, can aid someone's recovery or healing journey through a trusting therapeutic relationship.

In my 10 years of experience, I have worked both in Chile and Australia in therapeutic settings supporting families, women and children who have experienced childhood trauma, gender-based violence, political and systemic abuse through individual, family and group interventions. My frameworks include person-centred and trauma informed practice; as well as social justice and feminist theories. I work from an anti-oppressive and culturally sensitive lens, prioritising always a tailored, respectful and collaborative approach.
